Snowy Owl Sightings!
Indiana and other Midwestern states are seeing an influx of Snowy Owls this winter! They are rarely seen south of Lake Michigan, but this year, the owls are migrating south in what is called an irruption. Irruptions only occur every four to five years, so the Snowy Owl sightings have been quite the treat for birders throughout the state. The reason for this irruption is not fully understood, but believed to be related to an increase in prey populations and therefore larger broods.
